ARTalk: Processing of Weaving a Commissioned Tapestry

  • Ridgefield Library 472 Main Street Ridgefield, CT, 06877 United States (map)

Helena Hernmarck, internationally known and award-winning tapestry and fiber artist, will discuss the ways in which she created commissioned tapestries working with clients and architects to produce large-scale works that could dominate a lobby or another site specific space. Hernmarck will talk about the unique weaving methods she developed to achieve realism at a distance which are totally different from traditional tapestries woven in Medieval times using the Gobelin Technique as was used in the Unicorn Tapestries at the Cloisters in New York City and the Cluny Museum in Paris. She will talk about her own experience as a tapestry artist/maker and also as an entrepreneur.
