Hot & Cool Jazz: 9 Horses

  • Wilton Library 137 Old Ridgefield Road Wilton, CT, 06897 United States (map)

9 Horses, formed in 2013, is comprised of Joe Brent (10-string mandolin), Sara Caswell (violin and Hardanger fiddle), and Andrew Ryan (bass). Each brings a unique element to the ensemble: Brent’s mandolin recalls the sound of Americana and folk music; Caswell is likewise an extraordinary jazz musician; Ryan is a virtuoso improviser in several styles. Finding a vehicle in Brent’s original compositions and arrangements, 9 Horses is a musical experience unlike any other. Their debut album, Perfectest Herald, was released in 2015 on Sunnyside Records and has been called, 'completely enveloping ... these tracks are among the most life-affirming one will ever hear ... This highly emotive music touches and communicates the essence of what it means to be an alive, feeling human being.'  Reception following the concert. Suggested donation: $10. Funded by William and Karen Tell Foundation with special thanks to Ed and Catherine Romer and Chris and Tish Brubeck. Advance registration strongly suggested. Pre-registrants should arrive by 3:50 p.m. to be guaranteed seating; wait-listed and walk-in registrants will be admitted after 3:50 p.m. if space is available.
