5th Biennial International FootPrint Exhibition
The Center for Contemporary Printmaking (CCP) announces the opening of the 5th Biennial FootPrint Exhibition on Sunday, June 5, 2016, with a reception and awards presentation from 2-5pm. This juried biennial print competition and exhibition is limited to works that measure exactly twelve inches by twelve inches, one square foot. The exhibition runs through August 28, 2016. The FootPrint International is held every other year, alternating with CCP’s Biennial International Miniature Print Competition.
This year’s, Juror, Andrew Raftery, Professor of Printmaking at Rhode Island School of Design, reviewed 266 prints from 139 artists representing eighteen countries. Raftery selected eighty works by sixty-two artists representing sixteen states and fourteen countries.
Raftery remarked, “When I look at prints, I often remember a conversation I had a long time ago with Eugene Carroll, an art historian of the Italian Renaissance and print connoisseur, who observed, ‘Great prints always seem larger in our imaginations than their actual size.’” Raftery continues, “The prints selected for the exhibition are representational, some artists exploit pure mark-making to articulate an involving* visual world… I invite viewers to delve deeply in the worlds created by these artists on their FootPrints.”

Best in Show Prize – Juka Tammenpää, Sundom, Finland
Best in Show Prize– Miriam Rudolph, Edmonton, Canada
2nd Prize – Cleo Wilkinson, Brisbane, Australia
3rd Prize – DeAnn Prosia, Newtown, CT

Like all exhibitions at the Center, 5th Biennial FootPrint Exhibition is free and open to the public. Located in Norwalk’s historic Mathews Park, the Center for Contemporary Printmaking is open Tuesday through Sunday, 9am to 5pm
