Summer isn’t so far away at Sorelle Gallery! “OCEANIC: Works by Teodora Guererra and Daniel Pollera”, on display from April 27th – May 29th celebrates the powerfully romantic open ocean. Guererra’s abstract paintings often inspire thoughts of rolling waves, and Pollera expertly paints the Hamptons seascape. Meet the artists during the opening reception on Thursday, April 27th from 5:00 to 8:00pm.
Connecticut native Teodora Guererra’s artistic vision deepened and evolved during her years spent teaching and painting in Fairfield County, Tucson, Arizona, and upstate New York. Arizona’s naturally radiant landscape and arid climate led her to experiment with rich under-painting and vivid color; while the shifting seasons of the East Coast inspired Guererra to pursue dripping and pouring techniques. Her distinctive painting style is an alluring synthesis of texture, mark-making, and glowing color. She says her artworks “explore the tides of joy, failure, humor, uncertainty, and the euphoria of it all.”
Primarily self-taught painter Daniel Pollera splits his time between his homes in East Quogue and Baldwin Harbor, Long Island, NY. His richly-detailed depictions of calm seas, gliding sailboats and inviting, sun-drenched Adirondack chairs reflect his longtime love for the coastline. Since obtaining a Captain’s License from the U.S. Coast Guard in 1977, Pollera has traversed the open ocean. “Living within close proximity to the salt marshes and shoreline has enabled me to capture a moment in time,” he says, “I feel a deep connection with my subject…”
