Do you binge-watch Game of Thrones? Is your child obsessed with Star Wars? Then this exhibition is for you!
Come and see the foundation of today’s mystical art, science fiction imagery, and fantasy drawing.
The Korshak Collection is an exploration of illustrative art. It is also a glimpse into the history of images produced for the science fiction, fantasy, horror, and adventure genres of literature. The illustrations originally appeared on the covers of timeless novels such as Tarzan by Edgar Rice Burroughs and classic pulp magazines from the 1930s to the 1960s, such as Amazing Stories and Weird Tales.
Featuring original artworks by the most celebrated fantasy and fiction illustrators, including Michael Whelan, Virgil Finlay, and Frank Frazetta; the exhibition is recognized as a compilation of some of the greatest fantasy masterpieces ever produced.
Let your imagination guide you through the Stamford Museum Galleries where gaudy, gorgeous, and grotesque creatures fly in spaceships, swim underwater, or guard galaxies. You will see familiar characters from fables and fairy tales as well as aliens and mad scientists.
This collection of illustrations was compiled by Steve Korshak, son of Erle Korshak, the founder of Shasta Publishers, a science fiction and fantasy specialty press founded in 1947.
