Artists From the Grotta Collection

  • Brown Grotta Arts 276 Ridgefield Road Wilton, CT (map)

The Grottas have been collecting since the 1950s, and are long-time patrons of the Museum of Arts in Design and the American Craft Musuem in New York.

The exhibition, Artists from the Grotta Collection, will highlight work by more than three dozen of the many artists who have been collected by the Grottas, including Toshiko Takaezu, Naomi Kobayashi, Norma Minkowitz, Axel Russmeyer and Mariette Rousseau-Vermette. “In quality and depth, the Grotta collection of contemporary craft outshines all others, including what is in museums,” writes designer and curator Jack Lenor Larsen. The works are housed in the Grottas’ architecturally significant home which was designed intentionally to showcase art.

Artists from the Grotta Collection offers a glimpse of these collectors’ vision, featuring important works of fiber, ceramic and wood – just as their collection does.

The Artists Reception and Opening will take place at browngrotta arts, 276 Ridgefield Road from 1 pm to 6 pm on Saturday, November 2nd.

Copies of the new book, The Grotta Home by Richard Meier: a Marriage of Architecture and Craft, which was photographed and designed by Tom Grotta — will be available at the exhibition and Tom will be available to sign them.
