11 am: Opening Ceremony and Ribbon-Cutting

Kick off with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on the new grand front steps of the Library’s Jesup Green entrance.

Join Executive Director Bill Harmer, First Selectman Jim Marpe, Library Board President Iain Bruce and others as we officially open this extraordinary, flexible, leading-edge Library.

March up the steps into the transformed Library with the Hartford Hot Several Brass Band.

In the Forum

An acclaimed special guest showcases the new piano, demonstrating the exciting new technological features of the piano and the Forum space.

Sword swallower, strongman and sideshow showman Adam RealMan is joined by artists from the Coney Island Circus Sideshow to add magic 

to the Westport Library.

Play With Your Food, Westport’s lunchtime play-reading series, performs one of their clever one-act plays.

Dance along with the Hartford Hot Several Brass Bandand their New Orleans-style music.

The Suzuki Music School of Westport fills the Forum with sounds of celebration.

Try some steps with the YMCA Dance Center.

Mary Ann Hall's Music for Children and Beyond will be celebrating at the Westport Library with an interactive Family Concert featuring Emily Hall.

On the Grandstand

Connecticut new media artist Balam Soto transforms the Forum and the Grandstand into an interactive digital art installation that creates art on the Forum’s new video wall.

In The Recording Studios

Explore the Library’s exciting new state-of-the-art recording studios with activities, demonstrations and presentations.

In The Writing Center

The Westport Center for Senior Activities writing program, led by Jan Bassin, hosts hands-on writing activities for the whole family.

The Fairfield Scribes are also on hand with drop-in readings and workshops.

In The Meeting Rooms

Stop by any of our new meeting and study rooms for a bite-sized learning experience. An expert in each room will be teaching micro-lessons on everything from first aid to art appreciation. Learn five words in a foreign language. Refresh your skills in first aid basics. Experience VR. Take a test run on a musical instrument.

In The Children’s Library

Join our Children’s Staff in celebrating the 50th anniversary of 

Eric Carle’s The Very Hungry Caterpillar.

Participate in building an enormous newspaper cocoon, then celebrate both the Library and the caterpillar’s transformation by making your own butterfly. Other Caterpillar crafts will be available and of course, you can drop by to hear the story.
