Norwalk-based artist Tara Blackwell brings bold, vibrant work to this year’s Juneteenth celebration.
Using vintage imagery with subversive wit and whimsy, Blackwell transforms familiar logos, packaging, and
cartoon characters into visual narratives that explore themes of perseverance and resilience. Her work
honors the spirit of Juneteenth by celebrating freedom as an ongoing, creative act of unapologetic joy and
resistance. She is joined by her teen daughter, emerging artist Lila Malone, whose contributions bring the
voice and vision of a younger generation. Malone adds a fresh perspective and intergenerational dialogue,
offering reflections on identity and hope.
Together, their work creates a powerful exchange between past and future, offering a vibrant reminder that
liberation is a legacy we inherit and a vision we continue to shape with each generation.
Join the artists for a special opening on June 19th from - 6 to 8 pm in the ARTWorks on the Green Gallery at St. Paul's.
