From October 17-25, 2026, browngrotta arts in Wilton, Connecticut will host Continental Drift: Encounters, North and South. The term “continental drift" references the slow, tectonic movement of landmasses — a process that both separates and reshapes. The exhibition will draw an analogy between geology and culture: artistic traditions, too, migrate, collide, and transform. In this exhibition we hope to bring together works by artists from across the hemisphere alongside works that bear the imprint of those traditions — whether through material, technique, imagery, or encounter with people and place.
Continental Drift will highlight 1) Work by emblematic artists from the US, Canada, Latin and South America; and 2) Works that have been influenced by art or artists from those two from continents — for example, Peruvian weaving techniques, travel to one of these continents, or exposure to the work of artists from North, Latin or South America.
