101:A Rowayton Institution

October 8, 2015

Where can you eat breakfast, grab a late afternoon snack, enjoy dinner or hang on the porch with your dogs after a walk?  Brendan's 101.  Brendan's has been an "institution" since 1988 though the building itself dates to 1885. It's been a temperance meeting place, a grocery store and a library.  And that is how it functions still--a meeting place.

The unique sign hanging over the front door is a curiosity. The aft of the salvaged boat is projected out of the front of the building towards the street and its hull runs through and into the ceiling above inside.

Located just past the main strip of stores in Rowayton, CT, along Five Mile River, Brendan's is a source for community information. It often hosts local art shows--check out the bulletin board.   And the food is great too. From ice cream year round, to veggie burgers, lobster rolls, salads and a tempting baked goods selection as well.  Brendan also co-produces the Rowayton Music Festival held at Pinkney Park and Bayley Beach every summer where they hosted artists such  as The English Beat and up and comers such as Shakey Graves, The Lone Bellow and Lake Street Drive.  I love to go in and talk with Brendan about music, something we are both passionate about.  Brendan's is "Community"--and a Rowayton gem.
