Artist Ellen Schiffman works with fiber-art techniques and both fiber and non-fibrous materials—including Q-tips!—to create vibrant fiber paintings and 3-D constructions.
On display January 5-March 14.
Artist reception: Tuesday, January 19 from 6-7 pm in the McManus Room.
Fiber artist Ellen Schiffman says that, in her 25 years as a professional artist, color has had a prominent, exuberant voice in her work. She notes that, having had no formal art training, "I have no color rules to follow and none to break. I use color instinctually." Despite her long-standing fascination with color, she has recently been drawn to working in white only, a shift that took her by surprise but prompted a pivotal year of intense experimentation in her Weston studio. She works frequently with felting wool and silk fibers but also explores numerous other fiber techniques and works with such unexpected materials as Q-tips (the show includes one Q-tip sculpture—don’t miss it!).
