New Rooms For Old Treasures

  • Pequot Library 720 Pequot Avenue Southport, CT, 06890 United States (map)

Board of Trustees President Alison Barry and Executive Director Stephanie J. Coakley welcome all to share in a moment of pride for the Town of Fairfield and Pequot Library during the unveiling of the Library’s “New Rooms for Old Treasures.”

This significant event in Pequot Library history celebrates the opening of three new and reimagined spaces designed to preserve the Library’s Special Collections of over 30,000 rare books, manuscripts, and archives while also making these important items accessible to all. The reception is free and open to the public. RSVPs are appreciated at calderon@pequotlibrary.org or (203) 259-0346 ext. 125 to register.

Guests at the May 22 reception will experience the first and only public tour of the newly constructed, climate-controlled collections storage room, located on the Library’s lower level, and be among the first to experience the redesigned May Room, a reading room with visible display cabinets featuring a rotating selection of Pequot Library’s finest items. Guests will also tour the Dillon Reading Room, a glass-encased viewing and research area (in a portion of the upper stacks) for students, scholars, and the public by appointment. The opening will also serve as the launch of the long-awaited, online searchable catalog of historical and literary treasures.
